Ola Fresca

Latin Roots Dance Music

Ola Fresca translates to “Fresh Wave.” Throughout their history spanning 15 years during which they released three acclaimed original albums, ‘freshness” is exactly what this Brooklyn-based band has consistently brought to the world of Latin Music, with their sound often referred to as “Modern Salsa.”

Ola Fresca is an 8-piece band featuring tropical Latin roots dance music that bridges several genres of “the Cuban sound,” blending Cuban son, cha-cha and mambo with salsa, timba, and Afro-Cuban funk.

Led by Cuban American composer, singer, songwriter, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader, Jose Conde, Ola Fresca evolved from the rustic sounds of Cuban son, cha cha and mambo as showcased on the band’s 2004 debut album Ay! Que Rico, to the funky, eclectic sounds of (R)evolucion, which won Best Latin Album Winner of the 2008 Independent Music Awards.

In 2016 their epic Kickstarter funded album ELIXIR fused a “Salsa Dura” dual trombone sound with Conde’s songs of social consciousness and humour. Ola Fresca has meandered through a spectrum of Latin roots styles and instrumental formats and fusing liberally all while making music that has been praised by many such as the NY Times for having an “emphasis on songs with characters, wordplay and mild social ideas…good for dancing and thinking!”

Cooperstown Concert Series presents
Kofi Baker’s Cream Faith

Playing the music of Cream and Blind Faith

Kofi Baker’s Cream Faith – performing the music of Cream and Blind Faith

On guitar: Bobby Messano (recorded and or toured with Lou Gramm, Steve Winwood, Clarence Clemons, Peter Criss and more.)

On bass: Ric Fierabracci (recorded and or toured with Chick Corea, Tom Jones, Dave Weckl, Billy Cobham, Shakira, the Beach Boys and more.)

You know the songs – White Room, Sunshine of Your Love and Can’t Find My Way Home – now you can experience all the classic rock hits of Cream and Blind Faith performed live by Kofi Baker’s newest project Cream Faith.

Son of legendary drummer Ginger Baker, Kofi Baker is a name synonymous with drumming excellence. Without question, Kofi not only continues, but extends the family legacy, with outstanding skills, drive and dedication to his craft.

Kofi’s first live performance was with his father on the cult UK tv music show “The Old Grey Whistle Test” – at just six years of age he proved he had inherited more than just his father’s name. In the early 80’s, Kofi and his father played drum duets throughout Europe, amazing audiences with complex African polyrhythms. Later, Kofi toured with John Ethridge (Soft Machine) and gigged in London with Steve Waller (Manfred Mann) and Randy California (Spirit). He also toured Europe with Steve Marriot’s Humble Pie.

During the 1990’s Kofi toured with Jack Bruce in Budapest, signed with Scotty Brothers Records and recorded the album Lost City, cut Abstract Logic with Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane and toured extensively – including more drum duets with Ginger Baker.

In 1994, Kofi headed off to the USA and for some time lived with his father in Colorado. Footage of this can be seen in the highly regarded documentary ‘Beware of Mr. Baker.’

In 2015 Kofi joined The Extreme Guitar Tour with Uli Jon Roth -former Scorpions lead guitarist, with Vinny Appice (John Lennon, Rick Derringer, Black Sabbath, DIO, Black Sabbath) and Vinnie Moore (UFO).

Later that year he attended the CREAM reunion concerts at Madison Square Garden and following these historic shows, started to develop and evolve his ‘Cream Experience’ band.

After leaving Colorado for LA, Kofi continued to play extensively and also set up his own drum school which spawned many loyal fans and pupils. Anyone taking lessons or attending his clinics can testify to his easy, friendly manner and the excellent way he communicates his passion to others.

In 2017 he was invited to become an integral part of The Music Of Cream 50th Anniversary Tour, which began in Australia & New Zealand and has subsequently played hundreds of shows across Australasia, the U.S.A and the U.K.

This project continues to grow and when between these tours, Kofi concentrates on his side project, Kofi Baker’s Psychedelic Trip. Celebrating classic cuts from the late 60’s & early 70’s with other top session musicians.

On February 17th, 2020, Eric Clapton invited Kofi to perform with him, his band and very special guests, at a tribute concert organized to celebrate the life, times and music of Ginger Baker.

This new project, Kofi Baker’s Cream Faith, hones in on just the music that his father helped create, and is truly re-exploring the Legacy that was passed down to him.  It’s the project that is closest to his heart, that he wants to share and truly keep alive and well.
