For over two decades, Toronto’s Enter The Haggis has combined bagpipes and fiddles with a rock rhythm section to create a distinctively eclectic sound, praised by The Boston Globe, The Washington Post and Canada’s Globe and Mail. Their songs offer singalong melodies and deep, meaningful lyrics which tell the stories of everyday hard working people, often faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Signature songs like “One Last Drink”, “Gasoline”, “Down With The Ship” and “Lancaster Gate” have had millions of plays on streaming services, appeared in Hollywood movies, and have been performed and recorded by artists around the world.

“Enter The Haggis specializes in the high-energy rhythms of Celtic-influenced stomp, but constantly surprises with new instrumentation, clever lyrics, catchy melodies and a thought-provoking ballad or two thrown in for good measure. We’re all Haggis Heads here which is why we keep inviting them back year after year. Always fun!”

— David Lavalley, The Center for Arts in Natick

CELTIC. ECLECTIC. ELECTRIC.

Enter The Haggis is clearly comfortable on the stage and develops an easy rapport with audiences, sharing the stories behind their songs and laughing through tour anecdotes. Their show is exciting and dynamic, featuring unpredictable and spontaneous moments. One song might feature Brian Buchanan and Rose Baldino trading fiery fiddle lines, while the next song highlights Craig Downie taking a trumpet solo or ripping through a bagpipe reel. Sometimes during an encore, the band will leave the stage entirely to perform acoustically standing on chairs in the audience.

Enter The Haggis‘ commitment to putting on a great show every single night has made them a favorite at festivals and performing arts centers across the US and Canada.  As a result, ETH shows have become an annual tradition on some of the most prestigious stages on the continent. The band has also brought hundreds of fans on eight tours of Ireland and two of Scotland, forging deeper friendships with their supporters while exploring ancient landmarks and natural wonders across each country.

Enter The Haggis has appeared on “Live with Regis and Kelly” and “A&E’s Breakfast With The Arts”, and was the feature of an hour-long PBS concert special which aired for months on more than eighty affiliate stations across the US.  The band’s legions of die-hard fans (the self-described “Haggis Heads”) have crowdfunded the last five ETH albums, helping to propel their releases to the top of Folk Radio and Billboard Heatseekers charts.

Enter The Haggis is currently touring in support of its latest single, a true story sea-shanty called “Swallowed By A Whale.”

Dingonek Street Band is a Brooklyn-based brass band dedicated to human culture and sonic adventure. Built on the celebratory energy and raw spontaneity of the second-line brass band tradition, Dingonek has created a funky, high-energy party music all its own by absorbing and reworking elements of Afrobeat, Ethno-jazz, punk rock, free jazz, and Balkan brass music.

FUNKY, HIGH-ENERGY PARTY MUSIC

The band began in Boston in 2013 as trumpeter Bobby Spellman’s Underground Society Band. A Monday night residency at the legendary Middle East Nightclub allowed the gang of musical miscreants to work out new material and hone the unique sound of the group. Over time, the brass-based jazz band began incorporating more sounds from around the world, and they gravitated towards the funkier side of their unconventional repertoire. Today the band is based in Brooklyn, NY, and the unit has expanded, but their philosophy remains the same.

Primal Economics is Dingonek’s dynamic debut album featuring eight original compositions penned by Spellman and honed by the band during club residencies in Boston, MA and Brooklyn, NY. Each track is a wild blending of worlds, mixing African rhythms with jazz improvisation, Romani scales with second-line grooves, brass and reeds with drums, gongs, bells, and broken glass. The fast-paced instrumental adventure finds the band taking creative risks without losing hold of the earthy grooves that form the foundation for party music the world over.

Dingonek Street Band is a vehicle for new musical exploration and unbridled improvisation inspired by the human condition the world over and strives to find new paths to the roots of human jubilation.

The Band:

Bobby Spellman: trumpet and slide trumpet
Emily Pecoraro: soprano saxophone|
Greg Blair: tenor saxophone
Tyler Burchfield: baritone saxophone
Josiah Reibstein: tuba
Marco Frey: drums

A little over a year ago we lost a vital member of our community. Bruce Andrews was a husband, coach, teacher and small businessman. Bruce was also a lover of music. He and his wife Sue hosted scores of house concerts over the years in their home in Schuyler Lake, and at the annual Flyfest event at Cornfield Hall. Bruce was also a very generous friend of the Cooperstown Concert Series, often helping financially with supporting many performers on our stage.

Bruce was a huge fan of the duo Burns & Kristy, often hosting them at house concerts and supporting the pair in other local venues as well. Please join us as we remember our dear friend and supporter Bruce, and enjoy the music he loved.

All profits from this concert will be donated to charity.

The concert will begin at 7pm, and there will be a pre-show gathering at 6:15pm with music by local group Fast Friends. Please come early to share stories in remembrance of Bruce. Light refreshments will be available for purchase during the intermission.

Terry Burns and Ron Kristy met after many years as independent musicians and singer/songwriters in Nashville, TN, and married in 2004. Often performing as a guitar and vocal duo, for this special show Rich DePaolo will join them. The music is fresh, contemporary, moving, melodic and fun.

Their highly acclaimed album “Caravan” earned this praise…
“One of the most entrancingly beautiful and timeless set of songs to grace a debut album in many years!”
